Compare useful energy, not the headline number

Battery comparisons should begin with usable kWh at the intended operating conditions. Amp-hours only become meaningful alongside voltage. A 100Ah battery at one voltage is not directly equivalent to 100Ah at another voltage.

Depth of discharge and efficiency

Manufacturers specify operating limits and recommended depth of discharge. Those limits, conversion losses and battery condition affect runtime. Do not assume all lithium or all tubular batteries have the same usable fraction.

Maintenance and installation conditions

Some lead-acid battery designs require maintenance and specific ventilation arrangements. Lithium systems rely on appropriate charging settings and a compatible battery management system. Follow the exact manufacturer instructions for the model.

Compatibility comes before preference

Confirm nominal voltage, charging current, temperature limits and inverter communication requirements. Mixing old and new batteries or different models can create problems and should not be done without qualified guidance.

Read the warranty carefully

Cycle-life marketing, a warranty period and real service life are not interchangeable. Ask about throughput limits, depth of discharge, temperature conditions and claim procedures. There is no universal lifespan guarantee for a battery chemistry.
