A freezer is not a constant-wattage load

A compressor cycles on and off, so a single watt rating does not establish daily energy use. Door opening, room temperature, contents, insulation and control settings influence the total.

Measure daily use where possible

A suitable energy meter, used safely and within its rating, can help measure consumption over representative days. Use actual manufacturer or measured data rather than an unsupported appliance preset.

Do not forget compressor startup

Starting demand may exceed normal running demand. Ask the designer to check the appliance’s startup requirements against the inverter’s surge rating and duration.

Plan the hours without sunlight

Night-time operation and periods of low solar generation need a deliberate storage and charging plan. Battery sizing should account for usable capacity, conversion losses and the intended backup energy.

For a food business, discuss continuity

A commercial refrigeration plan should consider operational consequences, temperature requirements and backup arrangements. A preliminary website estimate is not sufficient to guarantee cold-chain performance.
